In our fast-paced society of today that regards efficiency highly, it is amazing to realize that more people are turning towards an age-old practice of meditation. Amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, many still feel an essential need to dwell in a quiet sanctuary for silent contemplation. Meditation offers this platform as it provides relaxation to its practitioners. Apart from this, there are many other benefits of meditation, which I would like to highlight in this article.
First and foremost, meditation alleviates stress by allowing us to be temporarily cast away from our worries as we are engrossed in meditation. It provides an avenue for us to be in solitude without being disturbed by others. In fact, stilling the mind for a short interval of 15 minutes by paying attention to the present moment allows us to be calmer and more relaxed. Therefore, we will be able to make better decisions and thus reap one of the crucial benefits of meditation.
Secondly, regular meditation is known to promote good health. This is because there seems to be a correlation between psychological stress levels and physical health. Many studies have shown that increased levels of stress, inevitably led to a higher incidence of chronic heart diseases and health-related anomalies. Thus, through a reduction in stress, meditation may be helpful in promoting the overall well being of our physical body. In addition, one of the many health benefits of meditation also includes a relief of physical suffering associated with some diseases. Hence, one can conclude that meditation is not only a preventive measure to health problems, but is also a therapeutic one.

Thirdly, meditation can lead to mental bliss and a peace of mind. It takes us to the root of happiness within ourselves. This is because without mental peace, it is difficult to be happy despite having pleasant external circumstances. Paradoxically, meditation will point out to us that contentment resides within ourselves and it is independent of our external situation.
Lastly, the practice of meditation can aid us to search for our purpose in life and discover our true selves via an introspective approach. In other words, it sheds light to the perennial question of who we exactly are. Though there are many desirable benefits of meditation highlighted in this article, it is unrealistic to experience all of them in the preliminary stage as the mind takes time to train. In addition, it is also hard to elucidate all its benefits because meditation leads us to a mental dimension that transcends language. Thus, to experience its wonderful benefits, begin meditation today.

If you suffer from anxiety and being anxious all the time then one of the best ways to overcome this is to use meditation techniques for anxiety. Because meditation helps you to relax, it can work well to relieve the symptoms of anxiety and reduce your anxiousness.
Breathing meditation
This is probably the least obtrusive way to meditate. After all, we all breathe so there’s no “oddness” about you using a breathing meditation to help you. Start by simply focusing on your breath. Notice whether you are breathing deeply or if your breaths are shallow. Then slowly increase the amount of time you take for each breath. This will help you to breath deeper which in turn will help to calm you down and reduce your anxiety. Over time, you can use more complicated breathing meditation techniques to help further reduce your anxiety.
Binaural beats meditation
This is a method that is increasingly gaining favor as it is so easy to do. All the hard work has been done for you by the composer of the meditation track. You merely need to put on a set of headphones and press the “play” button on your iPod or other MP3 player. The specially recorded track uses electronic beats to take you into a state of deep meditation – the kind that would otherwise takes years of practice – and almost instantly relax you. A lot of people around the world are finding that using a binaural beats meditation is far and away the easiest and most effective meditation technique for anxiety.

Meditation is a way of exploring the deepest part of ourselves and seeking comfort in it. The physical and outside world is always full of pressure, chaos, and negative emotions. As a result, most of us find it so tough to be able to relax and cope up. But through the help of meditation, there’s a great chance that you can put yourself into pure silence and peace. If you reach this stage, you get the liberty to relax, think deeply, and keep composure. But what are the most effective meditation techniques for you? Read on and you’ll learn some of them.
There are actually thousands of meditation techniques out there but here are nine of the most common and popular:
- Staring at an object – people who have difficulty sleeping use the technique of staring at a certain object in order to effectively sleep. But aside from being a sleeping aid, it is also a very good meditation technique that can help your mind relax through focus and spotlight. By doing so, your mind is stripped off the pressure and clutters of other stuff. It becomes preoccupied with the object you are staring at.
- Deep breathing – breathing really slow and deep can provide relaxing effects for the body and mind. IF we are always on the move and get a lot of stress, our adrenaline keeps pumping and that makes us breath fast and heavy. If you want to meditate, deep breathing is a very good technique since it lets your mind relax and be placed in its calmest state.
- Get along with nature – are you feeling stressed and pressured lately? Do you feel like the world has become so congested and cluttered it seems like you can’t get out? One way of meditating effectively is by getting along and absorbing nature. You can do this by going outside and find a place that best resembles nature at its best. You can lie in the fields, smell the flowers in the garden, or stay at the beach. These things will make you relax and keep off the usual pressures of everyday life.
- Find others to meditate with you – sometimes meditation is difficult when you are alone since you may lack the ability to concentrate. If this happens, the best technique would be to meditate with a group. The effect of group meditation is so great that more and more people these days are doing it instead of being alone. The company of others while meditating is a very comforting concept since you’re actually getting an inspiration to do it by seeing others do the same.
- Mindfulness meditation – this kind of technique in meditation deals with being aware of your senses. What you do is you start the process by breathing slowly and then be able to identify your senses. Erase the tension, pressure, or any outside negative force. The purpose of the mindfulness technique is not to control yourself but to be able to observe your senses to the highest and deepest levels without altering them.
- Mantra – this meditation technique meanwhile is an old way of putting oneself to the deepest levels of the mind. It is done with the chanting of a certain phrase or word that can result to deep relaxation mode.
- Walking – most of us don’t realize it but walking is actually a form of meditation. People who are tired and fed up with sitting all day long in their offices can find some time meditating by walking outside; preferably a quiet and secluded place where there is no presence or symbols of clutters and congestion. Any environment that can put a soothing calm in your mind will do. The concept is really based on a notion that if a person wanders to a place he’s never been, his mind is put exclusively to it.
- Empty your mind – emptying your mind is a meditation technique that most of us commonly use but we don’t really pay much attention to it. Have you ever felt like closing your eyes and letting your mind float to the air without any regard or concern to anything that surrounds you? Emptying your mind with anything that concerns you will put you to a very deep level of meditation.
- Listening to binaural beats – finally, a very effective technique in meditation is through music. However, the experience can be more satisfying if you opt for binaural beats. Put your headphones on and you will obtain a very successful journey to the deepest corners of your mind.

Practicing Meditation to Experience Transformation

The practice of meditation is learning to be in control of the mind instead of allowing it to control you. To learn to gently quiet the mind is the most important step to experience deep and transformative relaxation and spiritual awakening. Yogi Bhajan said, “Prayer is when you talk to God, meditation is when God talks to you.” The practice of silencing the mind allows the quiet space to open within you so you can hear that divine voice inside of you, deeper than all thoughts. This is true meditation.
Every yogic and spiritual tradition has different methods for practicing meditation ranging from finding the simplest of quiet moments in your day to embarking on a disciplined daily meditation practice incorporating mantra, meditation music, andpranayama. In Kundalini Yoga, the most common types are silent meditations, sometimes with a silent internal mantra recitation, and meditations that are practiced by chanting mantras or affirmations out loud, often accompanied by mantra music or meditation music. Any of these can be practiced with specific postures and mudras.
The basic guideline for practicing meditations in many yogic traditions is to try them out for at least 40 days. Yogi Bhajan taught that in 40 days you will break a bad habit, in 90 days you will create a new positive habit, in 120 days you have become the positive habit, and by 1000 days you attain mastery. Meditations are also often given specific lengths of time related to their intended purpose. The most commonly used times in Kundalini Yoga are either 11 minutes, 31 minutes or 62 minutes.

It is believed that the ideal time to meditate is when the angle between the earth and the sun is at 60 degrees. This happens 2-1/2 before sunrise and sunset every day. In the Kundalini tradition, the 2-1/2 hours before sunrise is known as the Amrit Vela or ambrosial hours and this is the time that the Aquarian Sadhana meditations are practiced. Using the Kundalini Sadhana Music to accompany these meditations creates a very powerful meditation experience. There are great meditation resources for finding specific meditations for specific purposes. Meditations for Transformation Five Part CD Series contains powerful meditation music with special instructions on the mantras and mudras and their healing effects. If you prefer to just find a peaceful state on your own for meditation, listening to any yoga music or meditation music while sitting in easy pose with the eyes closed is a great first step. This can even be done while practicing any kind of yoga, be it Kundalini yoga, Hatha yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Vinyasa, Flow Yoga or Bhakti yoga; some soothing yoga music can be incorporated to attain that higher realm of concentration and mental calm.
Meditation and yoga are both practices towards a spiritual life. There are great tools that can accompany these practices. Spirit Voyage is an online yoga and music company which has dedicated itself to sharing these tools. Spirit Voyage offers a vast collection of spiritual music CDs and DVDs for practicing yoga and meditation. Kundalini Meditation by Harijiwan Khalsa, A Hundred Blessings by Mirabai Ceiba Mantras for Precarious Times by Deva Premal and Adhara by Nirinjan Kaur are few from this collection which will create the perfect serene atmosphere around.
The extensive music collection offered by Spirit Voyage is enriched by the sacred chants of world famous devotional singersDeva Premal, WAH!, Snatam Kaur and many more whose beautiful voices fill up the air with divine tranquility sending you into an blissful state of meditation. You can also find a great Yoga DVD to help with your meditation including ones from Yogi Bhajanand Gurmukh.

Meditation: Find Inner Peace and Love

The world we live in today is full of many distractions that can slowdown our minds. These distractions can destroy our awareness by causing more sepraration between our physical and spiritual bodies. Meditation helps reduce these distractions and brings our bodies and minds to a finer state of equilibrium. At this state disturbance is minimal and our consciousness is in a state of ecstasy, spaceless and timeless. This state can be refer to as: pure potentiality, creativity, eternity, peace, joy, happiness and infinite possibilities. If we can perfect meditation, we will increase the power of creation within us and anything is possible. All we have to do is use the power of imagination and we can create our own realities. Since humanity is nowhere near this level, it is impossible for us to effectively use this power of creation but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try.
Perfecting meditation takes time, commitment and patience. Learning this technique will help us achieve a higher level of consciousness. Meditation also reunites us with the infinite knowledge stored within our souls. Reconnecting to this subtle energy will contradict many of our beliefs but will help us find the truth about who we truly are. It will also help us achieve divinity, happiness, inner peace, enlightenment and bliss.

Meditation is one of the best ways to help us achieve true happiness and love. Most people live their lives trying to find happiness and love but will usually end up empty handed. The main reason for this is because they are searching in the wrong places. Instead of relying on their inner selves, they rely on external things to fulfill the void within them. We can’t find true happiness and love from external things until we first find it within ourselves. The happiness and love within us are infinite, they will never go away and are unconditional. The happiness and love we find from external things are usually temporary and will not be able to fill the void within us. From a spiritual perspective, love is the vibrational energy that seeks Oneness and harmony. It is not just a feeling but a conscious energy that attracts. Therefore, when we love others we live in harmony with them and are attracted to them. Remember, everything we need to know about ourselves is already within us. Instead of relying mostly on external sources to help us find happiness and love, we need to rely more on internal sources. Once we reconnect ourselves to these sources of pure potential energy, everything will fall into place, then we can start relying on external things to help fulfill our physical and emotion needs.

There are many benefits to be had by meditating regularly. If you are somebody that constantly feels stressed, frustrated, anxious or angry, it is definitely a good idea to consider meditation. Meditation is the process of paying attention and learning to focus. In a day and age where people’s minds are ina constant state of flux, thinking about work, or getting from A to B, or worrying about things that may or may not happen, now more than ever, meditation is of high importance for people to start practicing. Let us now look at the benefits you can expect from meditating.
Well the one thing that meditation is perhaps most famous for is the quieting of your mind, so that you start feeling calmer and better able to handle your handle day to day life. This is perhaps the most common reason why people decide to undertake meditation. Unfortunately it is also at this level that many people quit. It seems too hard, no matter how hard they try, they do not seem to be able to shake their tendency to revert to thinking about about current problems, tensions, worries and anxieties, rather than getting a true glimpse into that inner peace that they are seeking to find.
The trick is to keep going. Like with success it is not something that comes easily or readily for most people. You have to practise and keep practising until it starts to come. How long will it take? How long is a piece of string? It varies from person to person. Commit to meditation regularly, schedule your sessions in, and commit to seeing it through so that you are satisfied you have given it a fair chance. It may not work for you. But if it does, the benefits and rewards are huge.
